The United States of America, the indubitable technology giant in the world, now is facing an unprecedented challenge from Japan.
After the world war II, with the third technological revolution, U.S. had took advantage of its position as a winner to develop technology research in frontiers—- nuclear technology, space technology, microelectronics technology and A.I. . These technology innovations had greatly promoted the economic growth and maintained the military supremacy of U.S. . On the other hand, the spirit of openness and huge technology fund had attracted a large number of scientific and technical personnel to this country of freedom. That might just well explain why U.S. can continuously maintain its leading position in the high-tech world.
The storys for Japanese are different ones. Unlike U.S. , the scarcity of natural resources and the post-war recession had made Japan take a careful consideration of its unique path of development. As a result of resources-lack, Japanese had to focus on industries which required less natural materials and more manufacturing technology. Take automobile industry for an example, TOYOTA had put Ford and Chrysler in a awkward position due to its low-cost and low fuel consumption. Being details oriented, Japanese had created a more effectively path of using resources and space. The invention of lithium batteries and the widely application of robotics imply that even U.S. can no longer ignore the importance of Japan’s promising tech future.
The weakness has its dual character. The story of japan had showed that one might just consider his deficiency as a chance to increase the possibility of potential success. Besides, the loyalty of Japan’s people is the second key of its highly development. With high degree of uniformity and national spirit, Japanese had recovered from post-war trauma in a very short time. Of course, the free spirit of U.S. also play an important role in such value field. But, obviously, it is almost impossible to combine loyalty and free spirit together since existence of huge contradiction between this two character. After all, one can hardly do what he wants or obey the needs of the nation in the very same time.
